About Sanja Hays

Sanja M. Hays was born and raised in Zagreb, Croatia and would eventually receive a degree in Architecture after graduating from the University of Zagreb. She started her career at Zagreb’s Jadran Studios where she worked as an assistant for several costume designers hailing from America, England, and Italy.

She moved to Los Angeles in 1987 where she continued to work as an assistant costume designer on Stargate and Independence Day, and as a costume designer on several indie movies. She got her big break when she got the opportunity to design costumes for Blade and subsequently Star Trek: Insurrection.

Since then, she has worked with directors that include Brian de Palma, Tim Story, and John Singelton . She has also collaborated several times with Lee Tamahori in both Along Came a Spider and XXX: State of the Union,  Rob Cohen in The Fast and The Furious, XXX and The Mummy 3: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and Justin Lin in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious 4, Fast Five, Fast Six, and most recently in Star Trek Beyond.

She has also ventured into televison by working on two successful pilots, with those being Fox’s Sleepy Hollow with Len Wiseman and CBS’s Scorpion once again with Justin Lin. Her most recent projects are Fast 7 with James Wan, the aforementioned Star Trek Beyond with Justin Lin, both The Maze Runner 2: The Scorch Trials and The Maze Runner 3: Death Cure with Wes Ball, and finally her foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Captain Marvel with Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
